Recently, 92,500 mu (6167 hectares) of areas in Cixi Modern Agricultural Development Zone were accredited as green agricultural production areas. After this accreditation, all the 104,200 mu (6947 hectares) available agricultural land in the development zone has been recognized as producing pollution-free agricultural products.
It is known that the green agricultural production areas are those inside functional grain production areas or modern agricultural zones where the ecological environment and the quality of produced agricultural products (apart from fishery products) conform to relevant national standards and thus gain accreditation.
By now, the modern agricultural development zone in Cixi has attracted 20 enterprises, which generated an output of 150 million yuan in 2016. The latest accreditation mainly involves grains, vegetables and fruits, specifically egg, rice, broccoli, watermelon, grapes and white beech mushroom.
Zhengda Egg Co., Ltd produces 700,000 eggs per day and 190 million eggs per year. The company feeds hens with special-formula fodder and recycles their feces through fermentation for a daily output of 30 to 50 tons of manure. Ruifeng Agricultural Investment Co., Ltd produces 100,000 bottles of crab-flavored white beech mushrooms per day and expects to reach an annual output of 1,500 tons during the first-stage operation. Similar to Zhengda, Ruifeng is also devoted to “green” agriculture by reusing mushroom dregs. Since its establishment, the development zone has been sticking to an agricultural development pattern featured by efficiency, safety, greenness and sustainability, carrying out strict control over the quality of agricultural products while ensuring a healthy ecological environment. In the future, the development zone will speed up the establishment of quality tracking system and work hard to become a forerunner and model in developing eco-friendly and recycling agriculture.
