Though the weather turns cold, the jolly festivity of an upcoming new year is growing even more intense. In this merry atmosphere, the fifth (Cixi) Hangzhou Bay Green & Premium Agricultural Products Exposition kicked off, with a theme on “green, brand and sharing”. It was no less than a modern agricultural carnival combining exhibition, communication and cooperation while merging crowds, goods and information. Over 230 merchants from Cixi, Guizhou, Jilin and Taiwan participated in the expo and finished transactions worth about RMB 3 million in total within 3 days.
Cixi has five leading industries: vegetables, specialty fruits, specialty aquatic products, fine plants and ecological animal husbandry. It has made exemplary contribution to land circulation, family farming, and modern agriculture, which earned it the titles of National Modern Agricultural Demonstration Zone, Key National Vegetable Industry County and State-level Vegetable Export Quality and Safety Demonstration Zone, all showing its national leadership in modern agriculture. In recent years, Cixi continued to exert itself by promoting agricultural transformation in strict implementation of the supply-side structural agricultural reform.
Cixi merchants made a striking appearance in the expo, showcasing the fruitful achievements of the supply-side reform. Dutifully fulfilling its role as a good host, Cixi divided the exhibition area of premium green agricultural products into six sections: the premium fruits and vegetables section, the water and sea products section, the specialty forest products & flowers section, the hats section, the Three Norths specialties section and the livestock section. Of all the Cixi companies, HaiTong Group owned three booths exhibiting its nine series of high-quality deep-processed agricultural products; five companies including Zhengda Eggs, Yihen Livestock and Henghai appeared in the specially fitted hall for the modern agriculture development zone; and Baolu Vegetables Cooperative whose four booths were run by director Shen Baozhong and his team exhibited vegetable specialties including fresh local vegetables and pickled vegetables.
An army of 80 Cixi merchants including local leading agricultural firms and cooperatives took part in the expo, occupying 95 booths in total.
Decades of persistence makes perfection. Wang Peiwang, president of Taiwab Cross Strait Exhibition Association who never missed Cixi’s exhibitions, expressed his acknowledgement: Cixi has already rivaled Taiwan in modern agriculture! He suggested that Cixi should seize the chance to further develop a “creative agriculture”. From the supply front to the demand front, Cixi’s province-leading consumption potential was fully unleashed, attracting substantial investment of merchants from outside the city.
The special food section is a major highlight that drew visitors. Shengzhou Liangtoumen Steamed Buns Manager Shen Hongping opened her booth early with free meat buns readily distributed to all working staff members and citizens around. “The weather is cold, but my heart is warm. The instant I arrived in Cixi yesterday afternoon I was impressed by the cordial reception. The hostel was comfortable and the transportation convenient. Also, there was an umbrella provided that’s really considerate.” Selling while exhibiting, she marveled once more at the enthusiasm of the local consumers: “The first option of my next branch in Ningbo will definitely be Cixi!” Shen has already opened 6 branches in Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Shanghai.
As Cixi’s pairing county, Anlong County of Guizhou Province also sent 10 corporate representatives that were led by Yang Yaxiang, vice head of United Front Work Department and CPC secretary of the association of industry and commerce, and took with them over 20 special exhibits for the expo. Yang said, “This is a trip of gratitude and sharing, as we hope to penetrate the Cixi market with our agricultural specialty; but this is also a trip for investment and cooperation. As an e-commerce model county in Guizhou, we hope to draw Cixi enterprises to register e-commerce companies in Anlong and join us in the effort for poverty alleviation through agricultural sales.”
Stimulate exchanges with exhibitions and promote cooperation with exchanges. Technological communication, trade negotiation and investment attraction are all in full swing in exhibitions. “Nowadays, due to the faster and wider dissemination of information through the Internet, the efficiency of product and brand promotion can be increased by 12 times compared with 9 times before,” said Wang Peiwang in awe, who’s a professional in exhibitions and an envoy between Taiwan and China. Shen Baozhong talked about his strong feelings for exhibitions: “For me, exhibitions provide a pivotal platform for branding, personal enrichment and win-win business cooperation.” He added that Baolu Cauliflower’s QR code-based safety management system and the massive cooperation between Yonghe King of Taiwan and Rongqi of Xiaoshan both originated from exhibitions.
Gu Zhining, sales manager of Xiangshan’s special orange variety, also shared her experience: “I still remember that when we first went to a Shanghai exhibition, our price, RMB 60 per kilogram, was considered too high. But when we went again in 2017, our RMB 80-per-kilogram oranges were ransacked. This is the value added by exhibitions!”
Cixi leads the nation with its modern agriculture. (Cixi) Hangzhou Bay Green & Premium Agricultural Products Exposition, supported by the city’s advantage both supply-side and demand-side, is bound to become a striking name card for modern agriculture and make new contributions to the city’s economic ventures.
