Recently, a reporter met Teacher Shi organizing teaching aids indoors at the infant and toddler station in the Kandong Village, Kandun Subdistrict. "This is the teaching aid box for 22-week-old babies. At this stage, we need to focus on the development of certain abilities, such as reading small number recognition books and distinguishing between soft and hard..." Speaking of these topics, Teacher Shi is always effusive. As a key teacher from the Kandun Experimental Kindergarten, the team she forms with medical staff and community volunteers brings professional childcare services to this children's station, putting surrounding parents at ease.
Who takes care of infants and toddlers aged 0 to 3? How can new parents approach parenting scientifically? What if there isn't enough activity space for children at home? These common family challenges have found a "warm solution" in the Kandun Subdistrict. In recent years, the subdistrict has scientifically planned the construction of "at-your-doorstep children's stations", integrating venue resources within its jurisdiction such as Party-mass service centers and community spaces. It has completed age-appropriate renovations at 4 locations in the Shenwu Village, the Wutang New Village, the Oak Bay Community, and the Kandong Village. This year, it further expanded by designating the central campus of Kandun Experimental Kindergarten as the hub, forming a "next-door childcare service circle" covering 5 major areas of "east, south, west, north, and center", delivering scientific parenting services right to residents' doorstep.
At the Kandong Village Infant and Toddler Station, the 100-square-meter room is divided into multiple functional areas: an activity zone, a reading zone, a restroom... "Although the space isn't large, it's 'small yet beautiful'. We have thoughtfully created a formal and cozy childcare spot," Teacher Shi told the reporter. The station is designed according to the age characteristics of nursery-aged children, creating a play area that combines sensory experiences to meet their needs for exploration and movement. The reporter learnt that, leveraging the teaching experience of the Kandun Experimental Kindergarten faculty team, the station also brings superior prenatal and postnatal care, infant and toddler care, scientific parenting concepts, knowledge, and services into families, enhancing their awareness and capabilities in these areas and promoting the healthy growth of infants and toddlers. It has already benefited over 400 families. Notably, the "Kankan Father Energy" branded activity created by the Kandong Village guides more fathers to participate in discussions on scientific parenting knowledge; the parent-child reading activities carried out by the Oak Bay Community mean that the station doesn't just provide services but has also become a "model" for fostering mutual-aid parenting communities.
"Parents are very satisfied with the teachers' care services and professional guidance. They all say that being able to access such safe, high-quality, convenient, and professional scientific guidance right at their doorstep truly removes their worries at the root," said a relevant official from the Kandun Subdistrict. It is reported that the next step for the subdistrict will be to continue using the model of "kindergarten-community linkage, nearby service, and on-demand supply" to extend high-quality early education services to villages and communities, building a childcare service system that covers the entire area.
